This is a typical itinerary for this circle island tour. The order of stops may vary by day for the best guest experience, and times are approximate.
Your day begins with a pickup from your Waikiki hotel between approximately 7:00 and 7:30 AM. Your local guide greets the group aboard the semi-private shuttle and sets the scene for the day with an overview of the route and what to expect at each stop.
The first stop is the Amelia Earhart Lookout on the eastern side of Diamond Head. This elevated viewpoint offers panoramic views of Oahu's southeastern coastline, with Hanauma Bay visible in the distance and, on clear days, sightlines reaching as far as Maui. Your guide shares the story of Amelia Earhart's first solo flight from Hawaii to North America, which bystanders watched from this very spot.
Continuing along the coast, you stop at the Halona Blowhole, where molten lava tubes from Koko Head's volcanic eruptions created a natural geyser. When ocean swells push water through the narrow opening, it erupts upward in a dramatic spray. Just below, the secluded Halona Cove (also known as Eternity Beach) is visible from the overlook.
As the tour rounds the southeastern tip of Oahu, you pass Makapuʻu Point with its dramatic sea cliffs and views of Manana Island, commonly called Rabbit Island for its distinctive shape. The deep blue waters of Waimanalo Bay stretch out below.
The tour turns inland to the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park on Oahu's windward coast, where Byodo-In Temple sits at the foot of the Koʻolau Mountains. Built in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii, this non-denominational temple is a scaled replica of a 950-year-old Buddhist temple in Uji, Japan. The grounds are home to free-roaming peacocks, black swans, and 2 acres of koi ponds filled with hundreds of colorful Japanese koi. Before entering Byodo-In Temple, visitors traditionally ring the three-ton brass peace bell (bon-sho) housed in the Bell House, a ritual said to cleanse the mind and bring happiness. Inside the 11,000-square-foot temple, an 18-foot gold-and-lacquer Lotus Buddha sits in the Phoenix Hall, surrounded by 52 smaller bodhisattva sculptures. The Koʻolau mountain range rises steeply behind the temple, creating one of the most photographed backdrops on Oahu. Admission to Byodo-In Temple is included with your tour.
After Byodo-In Temple, the tour stops at a local farm where you can sample Hawaiian Kona coffee and macadamia nuts. Your guide explains the role these crops play in Hawaii's agricultural history.
The tour pauses for lunch at a local Hawaiian restaurant on the North Shore, where you can try garlic shrimp, kalua pork, coconut shrimp, or other local dishes. Lunch is at your own expense.
A quick stop at a tropical fruit stand offers fresh mangos, ice-cold coconut water, and other seasonal fruit.
The group visits Sunset Beach, one of the North Shore's most famous stretches of sand. During winter months, waves can reach 30 to 40 feet, drawing professional surfers from around the world. In summer, the water is calm and inviting.
At a nearby North Shore beach, you have the chance to spot Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu) resting on the sand. Your guide explains the cultural significance of honu in Hawaiian tradition and the conservation efforts that protect them.
The final stop of the day is the historic Dole Plantation, where you can browse pineapple-themed souvenirs and enjoy a Dole Whip, the iconic pineapple soft serve.
The shuttle returns you to Waikiki, typically arriving between 3:30 and 4:30 PM.
Pass-by highlights include: Kapiolani Park, Waikiki Aquarium, Koko Head, Hanauma Bay, Sandy Beach, Waimanalo sea cliffs, Chinamanʻs Hat (Mokoliʻi Island), Kahana Bay, and Laie Hawaii Temple

Byodo-In Temple is one of Oahu's most remarkable cultural landmarks, a scaled replica of a nearly 1,000-year-old Buddhist temple in Uji, Japan, set against the dramatic green cliffs of the Koʻolau Mountains on the island's windward coast. Built in 1968 to honor the centennial of Japanese immigration to Hawaii, the temple welcomes visitors of all faiths to walk its grounds, ring the sacred peace bell, and stand before an 18-foot golden Buddha inside the Phoenix Hall.
On this circle island tour, the stop at Byodo-In Temple provides a striking contrast to the rest of the day's coastal views and beach stops. The temple grounds are lush and quiet, with koi-filled ponds, roaming peacocks, and meditation niches tucked beneath the mountain wall. Your guide provides context on the temple's history and its connection to the waves of Japanese immigrants who shaped Hawaii's culture, from the sugar plantations of the 1800s to the thriving communities of today. The combination of Japanese design and Hawaiian landscape makes Byodo-In Temple feel unlike anywhere else on the island, and many guests describe it as the most memorable stop of the day.
This Oahu circle island tour is ideal for first-time visitors who want a comprehensive introduction to the island's geography, culture, and food in a single day. Families, couples, and solo travelers all benefit from having a local guide handle the driving and share insider knowledge at each stop. With Byodo-In Temple admission included and stops ranging from volcanic lookouts to North Shore surf breaks, it covers the full spectrum of what makes Oahu special.

If you're looking for a reliable way to see the island with guides who clearly love what they do, this is a solid choice.
Great tour and RJ was an amazing tour guide. All the locations were beautiful, picturesque and full of history. The temple was beautiful, peaceful and fun to interact with the koi fish and birds. Turtle beach was picturesque with the turtles, beautiful beach and big surf waves with surfers ride the waves. The Whipped pineapple at the Dole plantation was “ono” delicious. However the best part of the tour was our driver/guide RJ. RJ was funny, incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour more enjoyable and memorable.
